Much Obliged... - Romans 1:8-15

May 24, 2026    Clayton LeBlanc

In the opening verses of the Book of Romans, Paul introduces himself (…a servant of Christ Jesus), and his purpose (…the glorious gospel of God). In Romans 1:8-15 the apostle begins to pour his heart out to the church at Rome. He thanks God through Jesus for the church at Rome. He commends them because their faith is being proclaimed throughout all the world. Paul shares that he had been praying unceasingly that he might be able to visit the church at Rome - - - that he and they may be mutually encouraged. Finally, he shares that he is obligated and eager to preach the gospel. We are reminded in this passage 1) to give thanks to God in all things, 2) that we are lights in the world - - - and that our light ought to shine brightly, 3) that we believers are to encourage one another - - - that we are to preach the gospel to each other, and 4) that we are to preach the gospel to all the world - - - that we are under obligation to do this.
