Believe - Romans 4:16-25
Romans might accurately be described as “The Book of Faith.” Theologians, commentators and preachers down through the ages have referred to this book as the most systematic treatise on saving faith. In 3:21-5:2 Paul uses logic, skillful argumentation, and a review of the Patriarchs - - Abraham and David - - to describe, illustrate, and confirm the glorious doctrine of justification by faith. In 4:16-25 we continue our in-depth study of faith. Paul shines the light once more on Abraham. We see that Abraham believed in God who gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that do not exist (v17). We see that Abraham was fully convinced that God was able to do what He promised (v21). In short, Abraham believed God. His omnipotence. His awesome might. And this faith in the character of God is what was counted to Abraham as righteousness. So it is with us. Righteousness will be counted to us who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead!
